Reports tests of 24 inks for suitability in permanently recording specimen data required in research collections, in this case of vertebrate animals. Each ink was tested for pH, corrosiveness, fluidity and opacity, total solids, drying time, color value, lightfastness, and resistance to preserving fluids. Test methods are briefly described, results given, and the inks rated. Only one ink responded within the good range for all tests. Only five were deemed acceptable for the purpose. -- AATA
