The article summarizes the recent history of the Tower of London Conservation Department. Most notable is the technical research underway, now aided by the acquisition of an x-ray fluorescence analyzer. In closing, the article gives a brief account of the metallurgical developments of armor during the 15th and 16th centuries in Europe. -- AATA
