Abstract
The scientific examination of a number of Egyptian bronzes in the British Museum is described which were gilded by the application of gold leaf on top of the gesso. The paper examines the preparation of the bronze surface, the manufacture and application of the gesso, and the addition of the gold leaf. Gesso was analyzed by x-ray diffraction. -- AATA
