Three new methods of conservation copying are described: the Overhead Photocopier, the Image Digitizer, and electroluminescent copying, all developed at the British Library. These enable pages from books with tight or fragile bindings to be copied without damage. A particular advantage of the Image Digitizer is that once stored electronically further copies may be made by printing directly from the optical disc, or transmitted by digital fascimile machines. Also, computer image processing techniques can be used to enhance images of faded or stained material: UK prices and suppliers are given.
