This article is an extract from an as yet unpublished book from the same author. Firstly, he describes the color system devised by H. G. Maratta and adopted by the early 20th century American artist and teacher Robert Henri. The author then moves on to the color theories of the Russian painter Vassily Kandinsky, which are based upon a color circle. Kandinsky proposed that the warmth or coolness of a color corresponds to an increasing proportion of yellow or blue respectively and attributed particular movement and inclination to different colors. Finally, the color solid derived by Arthur Pope and his colleague Waldo Ross is described. Color harmony and balance are compared to parallel qualities in music. -- AATA
