This article describes the refurbishment of slate roofing at Saint Mark's Church, Silvertown, and the Skin Floor Warehouse, Tobacco Dock. At both locations significant quantities of the existing slate was salvaged, cleared, and reused. At Tobacco Docks the original slates were blue-grey Bangor and Ffestiniog slates, and new blue-grey Penrhyn slates were chosen as a reasonable match. At Saint Mark's, the original mixture of Bangor Reds, Penrhyn blues, Ffestiniog greys and a green slate had been covered in bitumastic paint. This was sandblasted from the serviceable slates. New replacement slates were green Westmoreland slates and blue-grey Burlington slates. -- AATA
