Modern methods and materials for taxidermy are described. Synthetic resins, e.g. silicone rubber, are increasingly used for taking molds of animals, mannikins are increasingly being made from polyurethane foam and glass-reinforced polyester resin. Replicas of fish (using polyester and acrylic resins) are common while replicas of mammals, endangered and extinct, are being prepared. The totally synthetic mount is possible. The new materials will provide novel problems for future conservators. -- AATA
