Abstract
Ash erupted in the Bronze Age from Santorini in the southern Aegean Sea has been found for the first time on the Turkish mainland in a sediment core from a small mountain lake near Gölcük. The ash in the 12 cm thick layer has the same refractive index and chemistry (by microprobe analysis) as Santorini ash found elsewhere. The discovery indicates that the west coast of Asia Minor experienced a heavy tephra fallout. -- AATA
