Abstract
Discusses the relationship between the visual, chemical, and physical properties which constitute a photograph, leading to a fuller appreciation and better understanding of the nature of the artifact, and enhancing the photographer's vision and technical expertise. With a fuller understanding of these physical qualities will come a greater awareness of preservation and conservation needs. Because of the many ethical dilemmas which are facing the emergent field of photographic conservation there is an urgent need for professional cohesion both nationally and internationally, particularly in the establishment of ethics and standards for the preservation of our photographic heritage. -- AATA
