The Platoro Lawsuit began in 1967 when a treasure hunting firm by that name located and recovered artifacts from one of the wrecks of the 1554 New Spain Fleet lost off Padre Island, Texas. This is the fourth in a series of papers on this lengthy and important litigation in which the State of Texas attempted to defend its right to manage and protect the cultural resources on its tidelands. The details of such litigation including the voluminous legal documents are almost never reported in depth. The documents are difficult to obtain. Studying this or similar situations in detail is important and instructive to cultural resource managers and archaeologists. Obviating these problems for at least one of the important treasure-hunting lawsuits is the purpose of this and the preceding papers. In this, the last paper in the series on this lawsuit, the final legal maneuvers and the out-of-court settlement are presented. -- AATA
