Abstract
The objects coming from the Longobard tombs of Trezzo sull'Adda were analyzed by scanning electron microscope with x-ray microprobe, atomic absorption spectrometer, and by x-ray diffraction, to determine the composition and the method of manufacture. A hilt, many knobs of a buckler, a little plate with a horse engraving, and three gold yarns were examined. The hilt is made from silver with decoration in silver sulfide (niello technique). The knobs are made from copper with gold leaf applied with amalgam. The plate is made from silver with decorations in silver sulfide and silver chloride. The composition of the yarns is different: one is made from gold containing silver and arsenic; the others from gold containing silver, iron, and copper. -- AATA
