Abstract
This paper briefly discusses the preservation of frescoes up to the time of the work on the painted vault. Details of the construction of the vault and the ground for the painting are given. The painting was lifted and the methods used for supporting, cutting and lifting are described. The chalk lime mortar which supported the painting was very powdery and the mortar used to replace it and the reasons for choosing this mortar are given. Re-placing the painting and removal of the support and earlier consolidant treatments are described in detail.
