Abstract
A microfiche reader-printer can be used to scan and prepare a permanent 8. 5-by-11-inch pictorial record of the morphology of any material capable of being inserted in the machine's microfiche carrier. Suitable materials for study include dry fibers, macerated tissues, and specimens mounted on microscope slides. No special sample preparation, light sources, or camera and film developing equipment are required. Reproductions of the pictorial record can be made rapidly with the reader-printer at a cost of less than 15 cents per copy depending on the type of copying process employed. Most commercial reader-printers have interchangeable lenses, thus allowing materials to be viewed and photocopied at magnifications within the range of 15X to 50X. -- AATA
