Abstract
Two plaster casts of busts by F.X. Messerschmidt (1736-1783) from his set * 2Charakterköpfe*1 were restored at the Slovak National Gallery. Neither the originals nor other casts of these busts are extant. The missing parts of busts were at first molded from a removable material and then after corrections from a durable material. These busts were cast after restoration from alloy of lead and tin in accordance with the chemical analysis of the original metal cast of another of Messerschmidt's busts. Neither the materials used nor the alloy composition are mentioned. -- AATA
