Abstract
The possible museum applications of a device called the Metascop (made in East Germany) are described, including its advantages and disadvantages. At first some standards and known samples must be analyzed by Metascop and then the dispersive curve must be constructed. There is no possibility of analyzing the elements carbon, sulfur and phosphorus, while silicon, and aluminium are nearly as impossible. To be detected, alloy concentrations of cobalt, nickel, and tungsten must be over 2% and that of the other elements over 0.1%. Only approximate quantitative analyses can be executed by the comparative method. A superficial depression of about 0.5 cm<sup>2</sup> remains on a sample surface after the Metascop analysis. -- AATA
