Abstract
The Yamato Bunkakan museum started to plan a computerized art historical research system in 1983 which became operational in October, 1985. The system consisted of an art historical documentation system, an image analyzing system for artworks, and a monograph data system. Discussions based on the experience during two years are presented, including the following suggestions: positive use of software for personal computers; appreciation of individuality rather than standardization at the present stage; effective use of a computer specialized in image processing. -- AATA
