Abstract
Lead isotope ratios of 72 Japanese lead ores, 32 Chinese lead ores, four Chinese copper-iron ores, and 30 Korean peninsular lead ores were determined. It is generally possible to distinguish North China lead ores from South China lead ores, and North Korean lead ores from South Korean lead ores, but it is generally difficult to distinguish North Korean lead from North China lead. The lead ores from South Korea are of the so-called Mississippi-Valley type, and their lead are quite enriched in lead-206, being highly evolved. Therefore, they can be distinguished from other East Asian lead except for that from the Huize mine, Yunnan, China. From the above data it is highly probable that the lead observed in a great number of the Yayoi bronzes, Japan, came from Shanxi province, North China. The Korean lead found for a minor portion of the Yayoi bronzes came probably from the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula. The lead of the triangular rimmed mirrors found in Japan is of Chinese origin. -- AATA
