In February 1986 an exhibit, previously shown in Athens, Moscow, London, and Amsterdam, opened at the Unesco building in Paris. The objects, displays and audio-visual material documented the history of the Acropolis from Classic times through the Middle Ages and up to the present times. Noted in a bad light are the effects of the work of architect-restorer Balanos (1898-1933) and the accelerated deterioration due to modern-day atmospheric pollution. Future restoration projects of classical archaeological sites in the planning stages were indicated. -- AATA
