The author deals with articles of the seventies in which theoretical problems in restoration of the old Russian easel painting were discussed. The relationship to the present development of theory and practice in restoring monuments is shown. Publications presenting the contemporary standard of scientific research work and practical restoration of both individual monuments of the old Russian tempera painting and whole complexes (the iconostasis of the Dormition cathedral in the Cyril-Belozersky monastery) are analyzed.
