Abstract
Wood collections are described that were recently displayed at an exhibition entitied The Botanical Cabinet in the museum't Coopmanshûs in Franeker, Friesland, The Netherlands. Two 19th century Japanese sets of specimens are described in which the leaves or floral parts of the species are painted on the wood. A German collection (dating from about 1809) consists of boxes made of different woods, covered in bark or twigs, that open up to display specimens of various vegetative and reproductive parts of the tree or shrub and a manuscript descrip-tion of the species. -- AATA
