The first objective of a museum security program is to protect the visiting public and museum staff from harm or injury. The second objective is to protect the collections from vandalism, theft, fire, natural disaster, and man-made disasters. Museum staff should be alerted to potentially hazardous conditions. Prevention, detection, and control procedures for fire and theft should be well-established and the possibility of acts of terrorism cannot be ignored.
