Abstract
Various materials were tested in the hot dry climate of Dubai at the foot of the Arabian Gulf and in the very different environment of Garston, northwest of London. Materials included: plaster sheet & entrusions (Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Poly Methyl Methracrylate (PMMA) and polycarbonates); Inorganic fiber reinforced cement; Flexible synthetic sealants (polysulfides, polyurethanes silicones); surface coatings (polymer emulsions); uncoated metals (aluminum, stainless steel). Results and conclusions may serve as valuable information regarding the construction of outdoor shelters for monuments and sites.
