Abstract
Complex geological events which resulted during the Palaeogene in the formation of most of the existing geologic features of the Balkan peninsula are discussed. For a reconstruction of the sequence of geodynamic events during the Palaeogene, the age of Palaeogene sedimentary complexes should be defined. This was not possible to do until recently, because type fossils were not available. A survey of palynological investigations is given, serving to identify a number of sedimentary complexes of various Palaeogene ages (from younger Eocene to upper Oligocene). Also a survey is given of typical palynomorph associations which can be referred to in future investigations for recognition of Palaeogene sedimentary complexes in Serbia. -- AATA
