Abstract
The conservation of native American materials is an increasingly sensitive area. In some cases direct repatriation of material has been proposed. A resolution relevant to this issue was recently passed by the National Congress of American Indians, and controlling legislation has been introduced in the United States Congress. This paper discusses the ramifications of the relationships between museums and native North American people and quotes extensively from documents published recently on the subject.
