Changes in the morphology of tussah silk fibroin, resulting from enzyme degumming, were studied with scanning electron microscopy and related to physical properties. Fibrillation observed on excessive degummed surfaces of fiber degummed by conventional methods, suggesting the need for milder removal methods. Linearity of compression-thickness curves decreased, while the compressional resilience increased slightly. The properties of fiber degummed with enzyme showed superior tensile strength.
