Abstract
The Lendak Pietà is an outstanding 14th-century Slovakian -- perhaps Hungarian -- woodcarving. Examination, however, revealed that only parts of the present object can be considered original. Previous restorations added much to the image. Recently, this examination influenced the restoration principles and caused conflict between restorers and the owner/employer. -- AATA
