An exposure of 10 sec in a microwave oven produced 82, 88, and 90% average mortalities among the immature states of the lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.); Angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier); and the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.), respectively. Following a 10-second exposure, the germination of uninfested Soft Red Winter wheat was reduced 8% or less. Radiographic analysis showed internal checking after a 15- second exposure.
