A detailed introduction to the history and types of ethnographic collections (in India). The author emphasizes the identification of material, detailed examination, and record keeping. Suggestions are made for conservation by means of preventive conservation and curative conservation (cleaning, consolidation, control of biodeterioration, restoration, etc.). The problem of fakes and an effective way of preventing their entry into museums are also discussed.
