Abstract
The following factors have affected the building of churches in the Philippines over three centuries: 1) choice of location; 2) church functions 3) building materials; 4) natural calamities; 5) native or foreign hostilities; 6) lack of professional architects; and 7) introduction of foreign styles. The physical characteristics of Philippine colonial churches may be divided into those related to form and those related to decoration.
