In 1986 a systematic study of the tomb of Nefertari was initiated by the Egyptian Antiquities Organization in collaboration with the Getty Conservation Institute to determine a basic framework of intervention on a monument deemed to present an extremely complex conservation problem. The entire tomb was photographed in black and white, and on every photograph, 4 transparent acetate sheets were superimposed to report the relevant alteration data with specific symbols. About 200 tables were composed, complete with titles, topographic references, and scale, to supply a complete picture of the present condition of the wall paintings. Color illustrations complete the text. Emergency situtations are thus identified, allowing for the possibility of an immediate reversible treatment. -- AATA
