Abstract
This article concerns discussions on the following subjects: the importance attached by both curators and archaeologists to finds as a source of evidence; whether all materials from stratified contexts should be preserved in the long term or whether a selection should be made; the need for conservators to know more precisely what both archaeologists and curators required; and how conservators' efforts should be allocated between prophylactic storage, examination and information retrieval, active treatment, and preparation for display.
