Abstract
After the petrol-boom the overflow of incomes to Saudi Arabi and the Holy city of Mecca has completely changed its shape and character. The introduction of motorcars, the opening of new wide roads, the piercing of mountains by modern tunnels, the erection of new buildings, have resulted in major changes to the urban layout and the demolition of historic quarters and traditional houses.
