An introduction to the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), its mission, and philosophy. Discusses aspects of creating a new museum including staffing, exhibitions, designing the new facilities, traditional care, repatriation, and outreach--with primary input from the museum's constituency of Native Americans from the Western Hemisphere. Examples of information Native Americans have given the museum to date are included.
