Abstract
Anatolia has sustained significant background for energy efficient sustainable building design. Domed houses of Harran, as an example for that issue, can be considered with their relatively comfortable inner aura. This structure with a hole at the top of the dome supplies natural ventilation; and the thick stone base obtains thermal storage and insulation. Furthermore, usage of local and recycling materials in these houses is having a potential for sustainable design in terms of economical and environmental concerns. In this study, a typical domed house of Harran was investigated thermally under winter and summer conditions by using numerical and experimental techniques. The numerical and experimental results showed that inside condition of the buildings were quite sufficient even under extreme outside conditions.
