Abstract
Bark paper, made essentially of a sheet of bark, is unlike true paper which can be made of treated bark pulp or other fiber. Evidence for the use of bark paper in Mayan America comes from examination of Mayan codices and study of tools for making bark paper. Comparison is made with Southeast Asian tools and the possibility of connections between Asia and Mesoamerica discussed.
