Abstract
Discusses the preservation of mural paintings in the Tabo monastery, a famous mud brick Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Temsil Taza (Lahul Spiti, North West India). The murals, executed in tempera techniques on mud plaster, were deteriorated due to earthquakes, climate and burning oil lamps. Mechanical and chemical cleaning with solvents was followed by a protective layer of polyvinyl acetate. The repair of an earthquake-damaged statue of thujen thop is also described.
