Abstract
Describes the preparatory work including consolidation with 3-10% Paraloid B-72 in toluene, application of a layer of mortar with specified composition that was subsequently leveled and thinned down, and replacement of the wooden coffer. The panels making up the new support were ready-made bonded honeycomb sandwich boards, consisting of a core of Aeroweb aluminum honeycomb between plastic skins reinforced with woven glass fiber. The frame of this support was also made of reinforced aluminum. The fixing of the mosaic, using an epoxy resin of specified composition, to a double set of reinforcement panels took place in a series of steps which are reported in precise detail.
