The toxicity of lead is emphasized. Recent cases of lead poisoning include people working in stained glass, painting, ceramics, enameling, and restoration of old houses. Its health hazards are discussed. Lead is known to cause anemia, gastrointestinal problems, brain damage, peripheral nerve damage, kidney damage, birth defects, miscarriages, and sterility. It is now known that lead can cause toxic effects at blood lead levels previously thought to be safe.
