Abstract
This handbook is divided into seven sections: Introduction - the introduction contains a table of photometric methods applicable to water analysis and a clearly explained typical procedure. Section I - Chemical Analysis Information - this section relates to all of the procedures. It provides excellent background information or review material for the technician and chemist. Commonly used steps are explained in detail. Section II - Procedures - over 130 procedures are illustrated with step-by-step instructions. Clearly written steps are supplemented with helpful notes. Each procedure includes information on sampling and storage, checking accuracy, adjusting for interferences and a listing of all the reagents and apparatus required. These procedures are written for the Hach DR/2000 Spectrophotometer. Other Hach photometers may be used by following the guidelines in Table 1 of the Introduction. Appendix A - Chemical Procedures Explained - Appendix A provides additional information on the chemical reactions for many of the procedures. Appendix B - Instrument Specifications - Specifications are provided for the instruments mentioned in this handbook. Appendix C - Process Analysis - Process monitoring may be required to ensure efficient treatment of water for municipal and manufacturing uses, as well as for boiler and cooling water systems. An introduction to process control is provided. Appendix D - Technical Support - Technical support is essential for accurate results. Analytical training workshops and telephone support are provided.
