Abstract
Tin has been used almost from the beginning of metal technology, and is one of the most important metals. Bronze is an alloy containing about 10% tin. The highest percentage of tin is found in pewter which is about 95% tin with lead. Pewter was improved by the addition of antimony to produce Britannia Metal. Soft solders are mode from lead and tin. The greatest use for tin plate was the manufacture of tin cans. Tin has good corrosion resistance, can be soldered, drawn, and painted. Tin is a very stable material with good resistance to corrosion. The conservation of tin is governed by three considerations; first, the metal is amphoteric, second, alloys are soft and easily scratched, and third the platings are thin and easily dislodged.
