North american indian birch bark scrolls are rare. (care must be taken not to equate them with south eastern asian birch bark; they are completely different in preparation and construction, and conservation methods are not interchangeable). A mide birch bark scroll was unrolled over a period of several weeks by exposure to methanol vapour. Cracks were subsequently backed by japanese paper, delamination re-adhered with acryloid b72.
