Abstract
Describes ways in which textile curators perceive the condition of carpets, here referred to as the Hole. Condition is the direct result of the intersection of three forces, the quality of original materials and the processes of their fabrication, patterns of use, and adverse environmental conditions. Information gleaned from one or all of these forces will contribute to a better understanding of the carpet in its original context, use, function, etc.
