The author describes the textiles exhibited at the Heard Museum, Phoenix, from April to October, 1983. These included Pueblo cotton mantas, Navajo wool chief blankets, serapes and ponchos. The Pueblos have been weaving cotton since prehistoric times, whereas the Navajo people learned to weave (from the pueblo), only after the introduction of sheep by the Spanish in the sixteenth century. -- AATA
