Abstract
Bronze monuments form an important part of the built environment, reflecting the history of a locality by commemorating key figures or events. Commemorative plaques are traditionally manufactured in bronze, and Scotland has much exemplary work in this regard. An understanding of the material, its production and its decay mechanisms is required to appreciate the needs of the monuments. This guide provides a brief introduction to the care and maintenance of monumental bronze.
