The studio of the Shokakudo, a government (Japan) recognized Hyogushi, was selected as the model for the workshop for the British Museum's Eastern Pictorial Art Section. The Hyogushi has developed on optimal relationship within the object-worker-environment; the complete craft/conservation tradition was to be put into effect in the British Museum's studio, not just a selection of useful conservation materials and techniques. Problems encountered with the design of the studio, procurement and shipping of materials, and finishing of tatami area are discussed. The final arrangement of the studio is described as well as certain protocols which insure a strict standard of cleanliness.
