The history of the monument, its discovery, and previous restoration (1784), and repairs are described. The actual state of conservation and the analysis and examinations carried out are listed. They revealed that the cracks were caused by iron dowels. The restoration intervention included: cleaning of surfaces, consolidation of fragile parts with an acrylic emulsion, removal of the metal dowels, readhesion with epoxy resins and replacement of the corroded dowels by stainless steel.
