The nature of dietary remains and problems of their retrieval, preservation and sampling are discussed. A summary of techniques for dietary reconstruction is presented including examination of stomach contents, coprolite analysis, floral and faunal remains at a site, human skeletal analysis for nutritional deficiencies, chemical analysis for trace elements, isotope analysis and enamel microwear pattern analysis. -- AATA
