Discusses the necessary preventive measures against natural and man-made catastrophes in the restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings and structures in Italy, and their impact on those structures, in two parts: 1) the ambiguity of vulnerability; the problem of civic protection in the safeguarding and rehabilitation of historic centers and monuments; definition of roles; 2) technical prevention measures: the problem of application of metal structures; conclusions.
