Abstract
Using the Kubelka and Munk formula (and in the absence of adequate experimentally determined data, hypothetical values), the effect of age-induced increase in the transparency of oil paint is shown to produce distortions in the rendering of forms when the thickness of the paint and dark grounds or underpainting are the basis of the artist's technique.
