Painted wall coverings were custom made in 1892 for Henry and Adelaide Frick's residence, Clayton House, in Pittsburgh. The support was mechanically woven of linen warp and coarse jute fiber weft. The oil paint was applied by blocking, stencilling, and rolled and hand printing. The panels were stretched on wooden slats mounted directly to the plaster wall. The panels were cleaned and stitched to linen sheet fabric and then mounted on Were aluminum boards (aluminum honeycomb with aluminum facing) using Were adhesive, with a barrier of scoured flannel and cotton cloth fabric between. The boards were then remounted on the wall. -- AATA
